Reports: Jannik Sinner likely to withdraw from Roland Garros due to his hip injury
IPA

Jannik Sinner wants to play at Roland Garros, but doctors are giving him contrasting advice. The hip injury, which doesn’t look very serious, may turn out to be a chronic problem if it’s not treated properly.

According to a report published by Gazzetta, Sinner is likely to miss the clay court Grand Slam in Paris. Sinner, however, is doing all he can to make himself ready for the upcoming event.

We will carefully evaluate my condition. If I have to stop longer, I would. I would like to play every day, every tournament, because I love tennis. But the season is long and showing up unprepared for a Slam with long five-set matches could be counterproductive. Jannik Sinner said at a press conference

Sinner received that injury blow during the Madrid Open which forced him to withdraw from the quarterfinal match. As a consequence of the injury, he missed playing his home tournament-the ongoing Italian Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas blames ATP schedule for Jannik Sinner and other players’ injuries

Apart from Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz also opted out of playing in the Italian Open due to his arm injury. When Stefanos Tsitsipas was asked in a press conference whether the absence of these youngsters and the elimination of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal would help him bag the title, the Greek talked about the tight ATP schedule, blaming it for players’ injuries.

I've spoken about the fact that the schedule has a big toll on our bodies. It starts from the mental side, and it follows to the physical side. The extension of the days in the Masters 1000s, I think, plays a massive role and contributes a lot to the fact that these players are getting injured. Stefanos Tsitsipas said during a press conference

If Sinner fails to recover completely before Roland Garros and decides not to play, he will still create history by becoming the World No.1 player from Italy by dethroning Djokovic from the top spot. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has to defend 2000 points at Roland Garros because he was the winner last year. If he fails to advance to the summit clash, Sinner will take his place.

Sinner became the first player from Italy to be ranked No.2 when he won this year’s Miami Open. Apart from this title, the 22-year-old also won the Australian Open (his first Grand Slam singles title) and the ATP Rotterdam.
