The Green Bay Packers are expected to a very unexpected choice with their new defensive coordinator hire, according to a report from Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley is in line to take over the position, sources told Thamel. Hafley just finished his fourth season at Boston College, where he has gone 22-26 overall.

Few would have seen this coming as it is quite rare for a head coach at a Power Five program to leave for an NFL coordinator job. Hafley is no doubt qualified, having spent seven years as an NFL defensive backs coach before his Boston College stint. This will, however, be his first NFL defensive coordinator position.
The move leaves Boston College in need of a new coach, though Hafley’s 12-22 record in ACC play may have had him nearing the hot seat anyway.
The Eagles are coming off a 7-6 season and a win in the Fenway Bowl.
