U.S. gymnastics star Simone Biles returning to compete in beam final

USA gymnastics star Simone Biles is returning to compete in Tuesday's balance beam final at the Tokyo Olympics after withdrawing from the team final, all-around competition and three event finals last week.

Biles said in an Instagram post last week that her "mind and body are simply not in sync" while going more in-depth about the mental health issues that have plagued her since she arrived in Tokyo.

The 24-year-old had a disappointing performance on vault in the team final, bailing in the middle of her Amanar attempt, doing just 1.5 twists rather than 2.5. She appeared to get lost in the air, a phenomenon she called "the twisties," which can cause gymnasts serious injuries.

Biles won bronze on beam at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and is a three-time world champion in the event.

Jade Carey won gold on floor this summer, while MyKayla Skinner won silver on vault and Sunisa Lee won bronze on uneven bars.
